Sally,

Your own experience really spoke to me, especially the part about how you and Tim have influenced each other's personal growth. Dan & I have been living that ourselves for the past 2 weeks - an intensive course, in fact. Also, your explanation of how we slip into depressing our emotions was accessible and clear in a way that should promote self-recognition.

I loved both quotes both in context and for what they say. In fact I'm hoping to use Peck's quote to make a point tonight.

Sally, As I have oft said to you, and to Tim, your relationship together serves as a great source of hope and inspiration for me. This is because I believe that at the heart of sustaining individuals, families, and communities is sustaining of the spiritual element of our lives. You two have made a commitment to this guiding principal. You acknowledge the role of the spirit -- in human behavior, in nature, and in your relationship to each other and each with nature. Despite the grueling hours of researching and swimming in data and information that is contributing to "facing into the planetary terminal diagnosis," you both choose to go beyond analysis and embody a commitment to make whole, to heal. In the context of sustainable development, our approach must embody a commitment to a process of healing the earth and of healing our selves. The values guiding re- or new development need to reflect a sustainable consensus of the highest values of our relationships with each other and with the earth. We need to look to the spirit - and I thank you yet again for reminding so many of us of the importance of this. ,
