Host us on a Screening Tour?

What does it take to organize a screening and host Tim and Sally for a stop on a screening tour?

1) Transportation for us to and from an Amtrak station, or local public transportation.

2) A place to stay and transportation to and from the screening venue.  We actually prefer a guest room in someone’s home to a hotel so this doesn’t have to be an expensive accommodation.  However, morning coffee is important.

3) Guarantee of a minimum of $500 for our stipend. We are happy to split the proceeds above the $500 after that minimum is met.

4) The opportunity to sell our DVDs at the screening, and a person to help with that.

And what does it take to pull off a successful screening?

A venue:  This can be a community center, church, quiet restaurant, local theater, or even a private home.  This means having a digital projector, sound system (key component), and the ability to make the room dark.  Comfortable seating helps and if you want a dialogue circle the ability to move chairs or move to a meeting room is helpful.  Unitarian churches have often been great venues as they usually have all of the equipment, and also a meeting room.  Theaters are good for comfortable seating but tend to put the kibosh on sitting in a circle afterward, to engage in real dialogue.

Promotion: this includes press releases to newspapers, local radio stations, email lists, handbills & flyers.  Tim and Sally are open for coming a day early if there is an opportunity for a radio interview and can also do interviews over the phone.  We are also open to bookstore appearances,  pre- or post-screening talks and seminars at colleges and universities, potlucks with local organizers, one- and even three-day dialogue workshops, etc..

One person who is committed can certainly do all of the work to put a screening into place.  But our experience is that a small group working together is more effective and more fun.  We are happy to meet and have a meal with the organizing group before and/or after as part of the deal.  Some groups have organized follow-up meals and more in-depth dialogues the following day.  We are open to that depending on travel schedules.
